#74 - Alskali & Yuggs

Alskali

Alskali are about ten feet tall with squat, heavily-muscled bodies. They are hairless, with dead-grey skin and huge hands and feet. Each has a single black glossy eye in the centre of their otherwise humanoid faces. These giants have entered into human folklore as the Cyclops.

In the RPG...

Alskali have no armour or immunities, though their eye does have a hypnotic effect on anyone that looks at it for more than a few seconds. Not only does the viewer lose an average of 3 Sanity points, all physical skills are halved. An opposed POW roll is needed to break the hypnosis. Note: Though their description says they are 10' tall, an Alskali's average SIZ is only 100, which the 7e rulebook states is the largest possible human, so it perhaps needs to be increased a little.

In a video game...

The Alskali would work fine in a game. They're fairly easy to kill, and their hypnotic gaze would add a little bit of uniqueness to the encounter.

In a film...

Giants and cyclops have featured in many films before, so I doubt the Alskali would make for any more interesting viewing.

Yuggs

Yuggs are large, aquatic, pale grey worm-like creatures up to four feet in diameter and twelve or more feet in length. Resembling Chthonians, they lack the long anterior tentacles, instead sporting a large, round sucker-mouth similar to a lamprey or hagfish. This mouth contains several rows of hornlike teeth and is surrounded by six small tentacles six inches to two feet in length. Like snails, they leave stinking trails of slime behind them.

In the RPG...

Yuggs are fairly simple creatures. They have 3-point armour, with no special immunities, and their only form of attack is to bite and hold on to their victim. This attachment does drain an average of 25 STR per round, however, so it's nothing to be sneezed at (it's only just occurred to me what an odd saying that is). To remove the Yugg, the victim's allies would either need to oppose its 125 STR, or reduce its 22 hit-points to zero.

In a video game...

Though primarily aquatic, Yuggs can come onto land (though with only 2 MOV), and without any strange immunities they are easy enough to kill, so I think they would work just fine in a game. The only caveat is that the Malleus Monstrorum says Yuggs dwell almost exclusively in the Pacific Ocean, so the game would have to be set either on or around it, but considering how many continents are adjacent to the Pacific, I don't think this would be that much of an issue.

In a film...

I don't think a creature that boils down to being a killer leech would be that scary in a horror film. And besides, it's been done (poorly) before...
